City Council Selects 2022 Leadership

The City Council on Monday re-elected Kyoko Matsumoto Wright to serve as mayor. The appointment brings another two years for Matsumoto Wright, who has held the post since 2018.

Also at Monday’s meeting, Councilmember Bryan Wahl was elected as Mayor Pro Tem. The mayor pro tem appointment is done annually.

Mountlake Terrace has a council-manager form of government, with the elected councilmembers choosing a mayor and mayor pro tem from their ranks.

Councilmembers on Monday also decided on liaison appointments to city boards and commissions as well as various intergovernmental agencies.

In addition, the council began scheduling their 2022 retreats, tentatively setting the first for Jan. 24, with the second likely to follow on a weekend in March. These retreats are extended blocks of time that are set aside for talking about long-term goals and priorities. When confirmed, the retreat dates will be published in advance.
